Top 5 Ways to Get Soda/Pop
For me, soda (or pop as some of you know it) has to be the perfect blend of lots of fizz and little to no sweetness. 5. The 2 Liter Bottle The two liter bottle is the loosest cannon of them all, unless you get the first pour. Once it’s open, it tends to go flat in five minutes? It’s 2011, and I can’t understand why this still happens. 4. The Smaller Plastic Bottle The smaller...

5-10-15-20-25-30-35
I totally stole this from Pitchfork’s 5-10-15-20, but I really like the idea. It reminds me of Rolling Stone’s Hot List, or top 5 lists in zines I used to love. I promise in between these ages I listened to other, more acceptable stuff, but when I look back on these particular ages, these were the first albums that came to my head: 5 My very first album. Such cool album art, and it really got...

The Worst Roommate, Ever.
Andrea brought out the absolute worst in me. I knew her from my early college days, back in the mid-90s. A decade later, we both found ourselves in transition and decided we would live together. We started off in a cool apartment just north of Hawthorne. The following year, we got a new roommate, an old friend to both of us, who agreed to move in with us if we found a bigger place. We found a big,...

“I don’t think dreams limit you, I think they console and compensate simply...”
– Nick Tucker, via The World. Also, I want to say that this doesn’t piss me off at all. When I heard it in my car at the stop light yesterday, I felt like Mr. Tucker had a direct line to my soul. I  defend my right to call myself a feminist, though, because I argue that men fantasize about this,...

Pictures of People Running Marathons
I had this thought yesterday that with the exception of my parents, every older couple I have ever admired has a picture framed of one of them running in a marathon, or some special 5K. I think this remains a huge right of passage for me into adulthood.

The Time I Almost Got On Love Line
I have been a fan of Love Line for years. I learned about it around 2000, when I lived by myself with no television. Love Line was part of my radio programming entertainment back then. I listened to Love Line at night, Howard Stern in the mornings I didn’t have class or actually got up early enough to catch it, and NPR the rest of the time. Truthfully, it was long before I had the attention span...

Michael Cera, Chiroprachtor
Me: Apparently Michael Cera was at the Blow show. Jessica stood right next to him.
Daniel: No way. What's he doing in Portland?
Me: I think he plays in some band here.
Daniel: What?
Me: You do know who MIchael Cera is?
Daniel: The chiropractor, right?
Me: No! The dude from Juno.
Daniel: Oh! I thought you meant Michael and Sarah from Vancouver. What's Sarah's husband's name?
Me: Mike Roberts.
Daniel: I rest my case.
